CACiS, the Centre for Contemporary Art and Sustainability, located in Calders in Catalonia, has announced its fourth international call for artists to participate in its residence programme and conduct a research project in 2013.

CACiS, also known as “El Forn de la Calç” (the lime kiln), hosts visual arts projects, performance-based projects, projects focused on contemporary art thinking, and landscape interventions, with the aim of finding new artistic languages related to sustainability and protecting the natural environment.

Not exclusively aimed at artists, CACiS’ residence programme provides the perfect space and atmosphere to focus on developing research and study in a nature-filled environment. The centre is located 5km from the village of Calders and close to the city of Manresa, in the very heart of Catalonia, with spectacular views of Montserrat and the Pyrenees mountain range.

The programme provides accommodation for up to four artists and offers work space for a minimum period of one week up to three months.

The team at CACiS involves resident artists in the local artistic community and helps with sourcing art supplies and other services related to their research. The centre encourages links with the local community for the preparation of workshops and seminars related to proposed projects.

A jury composed of the CACiS team and other professionals will select the projects-in-residence from applicants who have made their submission according to the guidlines at the CACiS website.

30th November 2012.
