Open call to select three European art professionals for a three week research project from August to October 2012, in tailor-made residences at El Ranchito-Matadero Centro de Creación Contemporánea in Madrid.

The residencies consist of a tailor-made tour which will allow participants to meet Spanish and Madrid-based contemporary artists, who will be chosen to match the specific interests of each resident.

The call is aimed at all cultural managers, curators, editors and journalists from Europe not living or working in Spain, with an interest in getting a first-hand impression of the contemporary artistic and cultural scene in Spain. Applicants who do not yet have an established international career are particularly welcome, as one of the primary goals of Curators’ Network is to gather art professionals who are not yet well known in a larger European context.

The residency includes the use of a flat in the neighbourhood of Legazpi, in the surroundings of Matadero Madrid, as well as travel expenses (inbound and outbound) from the European country of residence. Each resident receives 500 euros to cover other travel and daily expenses.

During their stay in Spain, the residents will be accompanied and supported by local curators and cultural managers and will be invited to give a short public conference at Matadero Madrid, in which they will present themselves, their organization and their project to the local art community.

Back in their home countries, the residents will then develop a cultural project that includes artists and art projects they encountered during their stay in Spain.

A jury consisting of members of Hablar en Arte, Matadero Madrid Centro de Creación Contemporánea and AC/E will be responsible for the selection.

May 25th 2012.
