With this programme, CAN will host two Egyptian artists in Farrera for one month while a visual artist living in Catalonia will be selected to develop a project at Artellewa in September and October of this year.

Artellewa is a non-profit initiative founded by Hamdy Reda, an Egyptian visual artist, with the collaboration of other artists, journalists and sociologists, and is located in the residential area of Ard El Lewa, north-west of Giza, just outside the city of Cairo. Ard El Lewa is a neighborhood that has seen rapid growth over the last 30 years, with families and young people from nearby villages moving there looking for new opportunities. Before the creation of Artellewa, the district had no space for cultural activities, so the initiative began with the clear objective of providing cultural education through art exhibitions, recitals, film and documentary screenings, and workshops for people without resources, emphasising the right to education and culture for everyone.

The grant is aimed at individual artists and includes:

• Airfare (Barcelona - Cairo - Barcelona)
• 80m2 studio and 100m2 apartment
• €600 (€300 in monthly payments) to cover the expenses of subsistence and local transports
• Support for materials to a maximum of €300
• A guide/assistant to help with getting around the area and accessing its facilities and to help develop the project and present it at the end of stay in the Artellewa exhibition hall.
