ABOUT THE RESIDENCY:

Located in the south of the Sierra de Tramuntana, just 30 minutes from Palma, CC Andratx is dedicated to the creation and exhibition of contemporary art. It was founded in 2001 by Jacob and Patricia Asbaek, and is fast becoming one of the largest centres of contemporary art in the Balearic Islands and the rest of Europe. The 4,000m² minimal-style building, with references to traditional architecture, is integrated into the mountain landscape. CC Andratx offers a residency program to artists and presents international exhibitions in the CCA Kunsthalle. So far, more than 500 artists from over twenty different countries have already benefited from this programme.

Four free studios are offered to visual artists for periods of three to six weeks, with all of the centre's facilities at their disposal to help the development of ideas and projects.

LOCATION:

The centre is located in town of Sa Coma, just 30 minutes' drive from Palma, and a few kilometers away from the port of Andratx, a charming fishing village. The stunning environs surrounding the centre, from Sa Coma to the fertile valley terraces and pine-covered mountains, present the natural beauty Mallorca is rightly famous for.

Growing in the centre are orange, lemon, almond, fig and olive trees, enough to supply the on-site restaurant. In addition, a natural water source from the mountains meets the needs of the centre and is an important contribution to the quality of the landscape.

FACILITIES:

CC Andratx is built in the traditional Majorcan style. It is a two-storey building with exhibition halls on the ground floor. Within the complex there is a large courtyard with fountains and colonnades. The exhibition space is large and flexible, with a simple concrete floor and white walls with no windows to view outside the complex, but with large windows opening onto the inner courtyard. There are also various common spaces, a pool, a forest, a library, a garden, and a cafe.

Cost: CC Andratx offers a free studio for a month and in return, the resident artist gives a self-selected work that CCA will use eventually in group exhibitions at the CCA Kunsthalle or the CCA Gallery. The work done during the residency belongs to the artist and the gallery that represents him or her. Travel and living expenses, materials, health insurance, etc. are paid for by the artist.

Selection procedure: There is an open call each year until June, for the following year’s season. The artists are chosen based on the quality of their work by a committee of international curators. Artists can apply to participate in the programme up to three times.
