ABOUT THE RESIDENCY:

Nau Côclea is an art production center established by a group of artists in 1997 in Camallera, northern Catalonia. The activity of the center is aimed at art research and production, giving special attention to production processes and the exchange of knowledge and experiences among artists. The aim of the programme is to offer to the artists in residence a framework for developing their research projects providing them with a working space, equipments and technical support.

Nau Côclea also organises presentations of projects on contemporary art and culture and develops programmes and activities that connect art with nature.

There are two kinds of residencies:

Production residencies: For these residencies Nau Côclea provides accommodation, some equipment and a working space. The centre’s staff will also help the artist to contact material suppliers, engage with the local community, and take care of other needs the artist may have during the development of their project.

Sound Art residencies: These residencies are focused on experimental music and sound art projects. The programme provides accommodation, technical and pre-production support, and advice from sound artists. The artist is expected to present the results of their residency during the current edition of the festival Música 13, organised every year by Nau Côclea.

Production residencies: Artists have to pay a fee for maintenance expenses: hot water, wood for the fire, cleaning, wi-fi and others. This fee depends on how many people are living in the residency each time:

Three or four people: €30 per day

Occasionally the fee can be covered by a work donation or services provided by the artist. The fee doesn’t include travel expenses or allowance.

Sound art residencies: The maintenance expenses of the residence are covered by Nau Côclea. Nau Côclea covers up to €300 for travel expenses.

Selection Procedure: Open call once a year. The jury is comprised of Nau Côclea’s staff and other art professionals.
