ABOUT THE RESIDENCY:

The main goal of the Casa-Taller ("House-Studio") Rodríguez-Amat is to promote knowledge of the artwork of Jordi Rodríguez-Amat, who has over 50 years of artistic creation and over 30 years in art education to his name. The programme has been created by the artist so that anyone can contemplate and study Rodríguez-Amat's work.

The gallery and workshop offer a comprehensive retrospective of the artistic career of Rodríguez-Amat, and include works created from the late fifties up to recent creations, including works in progress. In addition, the programme develops artistic and cultural activities in order to help the development of art and culture in general.

The residencies at the Casa-Taller offer the opportunity for participating artists to be trained by Jordi Rodríguez-Amat for periods of a week or two. This is an educational programme.

Casa-Taller Rodríguez-Amat is in Les Olives, Garrigoles, a rural village located in the middle of the Empordà, about 120km from Barcelona, 25km from Girona, and about the same distance from Figueres.

FACILITIES:

The building originates from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, now renovated and expanded, with a total size of 850m². It is built of stone and has ampurdanés style vaults in different parts of the building.

The building is divided into five main areas: an art gallery (110m²); an multipurpose auditorium (80m², with a capacity for 80 people); a hall (46m²); the artist's workshop (190m²); and accommodation. There are two terraces; one which is 20m² and located on the same floor as the workshop, and another located on the first floor with a total area of 120m².

Accommodation: There are three possibilities:

a detached house with direct access to the Foundation. This house has a kitchen, dining room and bedroom with bathroom;

a bedroom with en-suite bathroom in the main building;

a bedroom with shared bathroom, also in the main building.

Studio: The artist's studio is on the third (top) floor. Consisting of two rooms with a total of 190m², it's oriented so that light comes through the windows throughout the day, allowing artists to work with natural light from morning until night. Facilities include 23 skylights that provide very good overhead lighting.

Access / Artists with families: The programme states that they cannot make provisions for artists with reduced mobility, and cannot welcome those travelling with families.
