ABOUT THE RESIDENCY:

The centre of art and sustainability Forn de la calç, also known as CACiS (Centre d'Art Contemporani I Sostenibilitat), aims to be a meeting point for culture, history and sustainability.

Located in the municipality of Calders, in the heart of Catalonia, the centre devotes itself to the research, production and exhibition of cultural projects, including the many conceptual aspects of modern art, and especially those related to ecology and environment. The programme takes advantage of the special features found at the centre: an old quarry, a well preserved environment, and, most notably, the ancient and unique lime kilns which have been restored to preserve their good condition and their industrial and architectural value.

In addition to a permanent exhibition about the historical and technical features of the lime kilns in Calders, the centre hosts temporary exhibitions of various artistic projects all year round. Musical and theatrical performances can be presented in its outdoor space, including on a small stage among the kilns. It also runs workshops on technology, creation and modern thinking aimed at students, creators and artists. Cacis aims to bring contemporary art, and its connection with natural environment, to the general public in a new context, while promoting discussion and education.
