ABOUT THE RESIDENCY:

The residency programme of the gallery La Caja Blanca gives priority to projects that are based on site-specific plans and field research through which the artist aims to come up with new knowledge or innovative working techniques and themes.

LOCATION:

The historic town centre of Palma de Mallorca is one of the largest in the Mediterranean. The city is well connected with the major European capitals (a two hour flight from most of them) and offers resources for artists and curators interested in developing a research project.

FACILITIES:

Accommodation: Accommodation is provided according to the needs of the artistic project. Artists who have developed projects in previous editions of the residency programme have been accommodated in remote areas as well as in the city centre when they have required easy access to historical archives and museum collections.

Studios: The workspace is selected according to the needs of the artistic project. Artists who have developed projects in previous editions of the residency programme have been provided with engraving workshops, studios suitable for miniature painting, industrial workshops suitable for sculpture, sound studios for sound projects etc.

Grants: None.

Selection Procedure: By open call and invitation. The selection committee is composed of collectors specialised in different fields of contemporary art, members of museums boards, art collection advisors, art critics and gallery directors. The selection criteria are:

Artist profile: Consistency of the artist's career, commitment to professional development, experience in collaborating with others and working in teams, entrepreneurship;
Body of Work: Interesting for an international audience, connected to contemporary discourses in the field of art, able to bring new perspectives / thoughts / reflections;
Skills: Priority is given to artists with an advanced knowledge in a particular field or those who have shown interest in deepening knowledge of a specific field.

Languages: Spanish, English, German, French, Iranian and Turkish.

EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES:

La Caja Blanca has exchange programmes with other art galleries with similar profiles based in Latin America, the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
