Located in Blanca, a mountain village located in the southeast Mediterranean region of Murcia, Spain, Centro Negra is a space for reflection, production and collaboration for artists and researchers working in the fields of art, social science and community development.

Centro Negra is managed by Aktuelle Achitektur Kultur (AADK), an artistic platform composed of members from Lisbon, Portugal, Berlin, Germany, and Murcia, Spain. Founded in 2006, AADK is chiefly interested in research projects that explore the body, space and territory. They support the decentralisation and development of culture in rural environments through research, production and artistic creation and consider Blanca and its surroundings as an integrated part in the centre's activities. They encourage the development of and access to new audiences in a rural context through their strong relationship with the local community, while creating educational programs with different partners.

They have a network of artistic and cultural venues elsewhere in Europe that allows them to promote mobility and exchange for their residents nationally and internationally. Far from the demands of urban life, residents will find themselves in a place where they can expand their capacity for reflection and production. Committed to field work, the centre's interest is in facilitating research and the creation of knowledge about how rural areas can progress in times of increasing urbanisation, from a cultural, social, economic and environmental perspective. They believe in the importance of processes and experimentation in violent resistance and speed time, and in connecting the rural with the urban, the local with the global. Through encounters between artists, the landscape and local communities, Centro Negra offers a different kind of space for thinking together in times of crisis and globalization.

The building consists of a series of connected spaces at different heights, built in the early twentieth century, initially as "corrals" or holding pens for the neighbors of Blanca. The centre is located on the mountainside beneath an old Moorish castle from the twelfth century, and the last 100m to reach the centre are only accessible on foot. Renovated as an open and minimalist space with large windows opening on to the Ricote Valley, and with part of the structure set into the mountain walls, the interior workspaces put users in direct contact with the landscape. Furthermore residents have a choice of accommodation, subject to availability, including an apartment, a double or single room.

AADK provide residents with curatorial and organisational support, basic tools, technical equipment, communication, dissemination and connection with other national and international institutions. They aim to foster dialogue through meetings with critics, guest visits, seminars and workshops.
