ABOUT THE RESIDENCY:

Azala is a dance and performing arts centre in the Basque Country in northern Spain. Located in a rural area, the centre is a space for artistic residencies and a meeting place for artists. It aims to generate working conditions conducive to the processes of creation and investigation for its resident artists, while creating a space and period of time which allows for the freedom to produce, learn, experiment, reflect, and engage in critical exchange.

The programme endeavours to build connections between artists, thinkers and local people in order to enrich the cultural, social and political ecosystem of the area.

In addition to its residency programme, Azala also presents workshops, laboratories, seminars, meetings, open days, walks and more as part of its ongoing activities. Investigating the links between artistic production and the environment surrounding the centre is an important goal for Azala.

Protected by Tuyo mountain, Lasierra is a village with only twelve inhabitants, most of whom are engaged in agriculture. It is an area rich with numerous cultural and sporting traditions.
